Online education is an exciting, accessible opportunity to learn new skills, pursue a new career, and grow your knowledge base. SLCT has developed a professional, personal and spiritual -fulfilling, experiential online life coach certification program to fill the growing need for remote, online learning. Under the guidance and tutelage of master life coach Richard Seaman, SLCT’s online life coach program has empowered students to reach their dream of serving a higher purpose in the world for the last 10 years.
As more people transition to remote work and remote learning systems, we find that they are seeking guidance in succeeding in this new environment. Our online students are thriving and building a tribe that is uniquely their own! And so, we will share tips and strategies that our students have practiced on their journey to becoming certified life coaches.
Gather the right tools
Online classes are growing in popularity because of their convenience and accessibility. Distance learning allows families with children, people without access to transportation, and those who are juggling work commitments to have an opportunity to reach their education goals.
Getting started is easier than you might think, and you don’t need a super powered computer to learn! SLCT is accessible to anyone with an internet connection. Our course material is available via online streaming, by download, and in Zoom conferences, all of which are easy to use and lightweight.
Before you begin each online module, make sure that your internet connection is stable. Nothing interrupts inspiration faster than becoming flustered or stressed out by a dropped internet connection. To test your connection, go to Youtube and watch a 3 to 5-minute video. If you can make it through the entire video uninterrupted, your connection is ready for online learning.
You will also want to keep social media, apps and software turned off while learning, to eliminate distraction and to reduce the risk of your computer freezing up from a lack of memory or resources.
Keep a schedule
Succeeding as an online student requires dedication and a commitment to show up on time, ready to learn. To help manage and chart your time, consider creating a daily calendar. This can be a journal or a digital calendar. By keeping track of each hour of your day, you gain precise visibility on your tasks.
First, examine your habits and routine to identify when you will be most successful at learning. Are you a morning person? A night owl? Once you have identified the optimal time for you to apply yourself to your studies, shift other priorities out of that time block.
When building your daily calendar, block out the specific times when you will be engaged in your classwork. Be careful not to stuff your calendar full of other tasks immediately before or after class. Give yourself a 30-minute break between each item on your daily list, so that you have time to decompress, relax, and re-energize for your next task.
Create a space where you can learn
Every student learns and processes differently, and the environment that is most comfortable for you will be uniquely your own! Find and dedicate a space that is comfortable, quiet, and radiating positive energy. This space should bring you a sense of peace and happiness. Keep refreshments nearby so that you stay hydrated and nourished throughout the learning process.
Support your learning by applying your knowledge
When you are not actively engaged in an online class, seek other ways in your day to apply your new knowledge and skills. This will keep you engaged and excited about what you learned, and gives you an opportunity to practice and retain the information through “doing.” Share your enthusiasm and excitement with friends and family. They are your support and your rock, and they will want to share your joy with you!
You may also consider adopting a daily journal for all of your thoughts and inspiration. Keep the journal on you so that you can make quick notes of your experiences, musings and ideas. At the end of each day, review your thoughts closely and release them into the world, so that they may manifest. Staying mindful gives you an opportunity to use what you have learned, and reflect on the world around you.
Engage your Tribe
Each of our students are unique, beautiful souls with passions, dreams and learning styles that are truly their own. Some students like to go their own way, while others prefer group learning. No matter your learning style, it’s important to keep in touch with your tribe online. The bond you will form with your classmates and peers is lifelong, and an important part of your support network. Get to know your fellow students so that you may share in their joys and successes, as they will in yours!
When engaging in your studies, seek out and set up small group sessions or one-on-one calls with your classmates. Model the coaching techniques you’ve learned, quiz one another on key lesson points, and most importantly, form a bond. Your SLCT peers will be your network, your rock and your friends for life.
Stay healthy and rested
If you’re feeling sick, exhausted, or out of alignment with your spirit, be kind to yourself and take time to heal. You will do a better job of retaining information and engaging your studies when you feel rested, healthy and happy. Perform daily examinations of your body and soul by meditating on your physical and mental presence. Take steps to nourish and mend what ails you, without worrying about other tasks and commitments. Practicing self-care is important to your success as a student and as a steward of the world.
Ask questions, communicate often, and be curious
The educators at Seattle Life Coach Training (SLCT) are here to help. Every question is valid and important! Our mission is to help you achieve your best & highest self, and pursue a life and career that is driven by purpose.
